11:11PM
Ugh! I hate
blackouts, more so because I can't read my analog watch. Who even uses analog
watches anymore?! Last time I checked it was 11:07PM. Its been nearly pitch
black since then. The only source of light I have is furnace. Not a very
convenient way to stay warm in this new century, nor a very bright way for
light. I think someone broke in a few moments ago, doesn't matter since the
only way in here is through the dumb waiter on the second floor.
Sometime later...
I felt something strange,
something cold. I dare not look up from my crouched position, the shadows are
moving in an unnaturally natural way, I hear footsteps on the wooden planks
above me, and then all around me! Perhaps I am hearing things, or rats maybe?
NO! It can't be! My eyes deceive me! The entity, appears before me out of
shadows! This is not right, this is unnatural! His silhouette is dancing in the
flashes of the fire! Is it a human?!
Even later...
What a strange being he was. To
find out that this house has a history at a time like this, you can't trust a
China-man these days, you couldn't trust them then and you can't trust them
now! Apparently this house used to be a boarding house of some sort for the
those that came looking for gold centuries ago. They regularly practiced the
conjuration of "familiar spirits" to help them find their fortune's
fill. On one night an unlucky lad ventured into this basement and was caught up
in a ritual flame, where he was consumed and became trapped in the shadows.
Poor old sod, and yet he spoke of fantastical things that his misfortune had
allowed him to witness. It seemed as though he wasn't cursing his cursed life,
but rather making the best of it. But there was something sinister about him
that made him appear... Now that I recall he had this thing about him that made
his stories literally come to life!
He stood up and thanked me for the
company, I asked him to where he was departing. He told me the storm was almost
up and that when things get dry the furnace should not be left on. A very plain
exit for the "Magic Man".
